The Mummy MOT

Lidder Therapies, The Mummy MOT, Hitchin

Lidder Therapies offers The Mummy MOT in Hitchin and Hertford

After the birth of your baby most women have a weakness in either the tummy muscles or the pelvic floor. Your posture and centre of gravity may still be altered. This can lead to instability and poor core strength. Combined with the demands of caring for a new born this may result in back pain, pelvic pain, bladder or bowel weakness. A post natal assessment is recommended for all women after having a baby, whether you are 6 weeks, 6 months or 6 years and beyond.

At Lidder Therapies we understand the changes your body has gone through and will be able to tailor your mummy MOT assessment to your needs.

What is a Mummy MOT?

The Mummy MOT service is a women’s health physiotherapy assessment for new mums. We’ll assess your posture, breathing, abdominal muscles and pelvic floor – and we’ll recommend any other postnatal recovery services you might benefit from. We’ll also talk you through postnatal exercise and getting back to fitness.

  • 1-hour post-natal assessment with a Specialist Women's Health Physiotherapist

  • Ideally at 6 weeks and beyond

You will get an assessment for:

  • Tummy gap (diastasis recti).

  • Bladder or bowel leakage.

  • Signs of prolapse.

  • Back and pelvic pain.

  • Sexual dysfunction.

Your assessment will be tailored for you to include as needed:

  • Pelvic floor muscle assessment.

  • Abdominal muscle exam to check for any separation.

  • Back and pelvis assessment.

  • C-section or perineal scar assessment.

You’ll leave your appointment with:

  • A better understanding of your postnatal needs and goals.

  • A plan to recover from your delivery and get back to what you love doing.

  • An understanding of the stages you’ll go through in your postnatal recovery.

We’ll follow up with:

  • Education and advice on safe ways to protect your recovery AND keep up with being a new mum.

  • A bespoke rehab programme tailored to your needs and goals.

  • The knowledge you’re doing your pelvic floor exercises correctly, if needed, and in a way that will move you forwards.

  • A written report on the findings of your assessment.

TESTIMONIALS ABOUT THE MUMMY MOT

I booked in for the Mummy MOT and I am so glad I did. A diagnosis of issues from my previous pregnancy, and a few follow up sessions, have made a huge difference. Bally is friendly, professional and approachable.
